Amy Black, IBCLC
Northern Virginia

Welcome to Milk Matters Lactation

My name is Amy Black and I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).  My goal is to assist families in their own homes with breastfeeding education, assistance and continuing needs.  Breastfeeding problem solving, weight checks, multiples, premature to full term infants, returning to work, low supply, sore nipples, pumping, maternal mental health and more.

"The transition to being a mother is a tough one and while breastfeeding can be incredibly rewarding, it can also be very difficult. Breastfeeding was particularly challenging for me because our baby came six weeks early.  And everyone seems to have an opinion about how and what you should feed your baby and that brings additional pressure.  Amy immediately put me at ease, worked with me to identify my goals for breastfeeding and how to best achieve them.  Best of all, there was no judgment, just support, expertise, and encouragement. Amy is a talented professional who not only helped me with breastfeeding but who also helped me enjoy the experience of being a mother.  She has my highest recommendation."

I  (we) can't thank you enough for the time you spent with us.  You were so much more than our lactation consultant; you calmed our fears, became our friend and saved us from some sleepless nights.

Much love,

Rachel & Nick, VA

"We are brand new, first-time parents so our stress/anxiety level is a little high.  We were a last minute apporintment and Amy arranged her personal needs (kids' school pickup) to stay late with us.  She stayed with my wife well over two hours!  She solved my wife's breastfeeding issues and baby had her first full meal!  Amy is terrific and we will always be grateful for her assistance in our time of need."

Thank you.  Thank you.  Thank you!  We can hardly imagine our birth story without you as an integral presence.  Your expertise, persistence, compassion, and generosity left a lasting impression on us.  You are a tremendous gift to anyone in your care!  Know that we will be forever thankful for the role you played in our journey as a family of three.

"I'd seen many women struggle with breastfeeding, so I approached it warily.  Amy encouraged me and helped me to develop a more positive attitude toward it.

From latching to weaning, she offered advice and support and fostered a rewarding breastfeeding experience for me and my babies."

Jessica E., DeKalb, IL

From the bottom of our hearts - we want to say thank you for everything you have done for our family.  Your light-hearted, calm, caring and hilarious personality has seen us through the highs, lows and the unknown.  You are such a pillar of strength for your patients and I'm forever thankful for your guidance with both of our children.  You have left a lasting impression in our lives and we feel incredibly blessed to know you!  Thank you so much for being you!!

All our love, John & Tara, Annandale, VA
